Child

Cut grass and chlorine smell of childhood

Resplendent in simplicity and bliss

A foot without shoe slaps the bare earth

Breezes and shade play light games

Sunlight cuts leaves to hit young souls

Lustless summers of Platonic warmth abound

Play a while longer in the sun, child

The darkness lies ahead in seas of strain

Anxious wringing hands and bleak obsessions

Forlorn addictions, smut and self-decay

But you, you must let love be your companion

Be not like us: do not forget the rain.
